South Oz, Victoria, Tasmania

Start in Victoria’s hip, cosmopolitan city Melbourne and head for the Great Ocean Road to be greeted by the 12 Apostle rock formation and the world famous surf break Bells Beach (think the legendary final scene of Point Break). Keep travelling to the Grampians Ranges and onwards to Adelaide and South Australia. Sip in the boozy wines, including the famous Jacobs Creek, then tour Kangaroo Island, re-known for an abundance of wildlife including koalas, seals, sea lions, penguins and you guessed it, kangaroos. Or do it all in reverse. But to get off the beaten backpacker trail head for Tasmania and visit temperate rainforests like Freycinet National Park, home to Wineglass Bay, and St Clair National Park, home to Cradle Mountain.
